Spring Crafty market

Plans are under way for a bigger, better and craftier market next spring. And we're aiming to expand into new postcodes and spread the message of the Hidden Teapot.

The response from artists, crafters and designer-makers to the Christmas Crafty Hand-Made market was outstanding. So, starting with Beckenham, we're planning to pop-up in a bigger, better venue so that we can accommodate more of our local talent. We will also be extending the brief to welcome a hand-picked selection of the very best of vintage. We will keep you up to date with plans to expand into other areas in the new year.

So.... a shout out to DM's and Vintage Goddesses who are interested in becoming part of the Hidden Teapot's growing revolution. Dump the high street, say 'No Way Jose' to mass produced clutter and shout a resounding 'Yes, yes, yes!' to hand-made heaven!

Send Miss SoS an email at thehiddenteapot@gmail.com and let her know what you do and send some pics too.

N1 – here we come!

Some of the Hidden Teapot regulars will be in N1 on Sunday at the Nags Head Christmas Extravaganza. It's a free event and promises to be a good one.

If you didn't make the Barbican Library earlier this afternoon and you fancy a change of air(!), head north and give us a shout. Davies and Daughters, SOS 15 and Sew Cushty will be there, braving the cold.

Details as follows:

"This free event caters for all the family as we celebrate the launch of Christmas in the Nag's Head Town Centre with the switching on of the Christmas tree lights. Browse the craft and food market, enjoy music and dance performances on the community stage, mingle and enjoy street entertainment, meet Santa's reindeer, sample some fantastic hot food or tackle the climbing challenge and rides.

4 December 2011 11:30am - 5:30pm

The Nag's Head Christmas Extravaganza takes place on Holloway Road between Camden Road and Parkhurst Road. The road will be closed for the day."

Sad to see you go...

Hello teapots!

A big, big 'thank you' to all of you who came to the Crafty market last Sunday! What a great day. It was fantastic meeting so many followers and the feedback was so positive! You seemed to enjoy it as much as we did. Just how much talent did we squeeze into one flat! There really was something for everyone. The only downside was that the day had to end! I know nothing good lasts for ever, but even so.....

If for some (it would have to be good) reason you couldn't make Sunday but you don't want to miss out on buying some of the best gifts around, contact me and I can put you in touch with the designers: thehiddenteapot@gmail.com

Crafty Profile – Sew Cushty

‘Sew Cushty’ was born from the desire for something a bit different. The designs evolved from a gift I made for a musician, creating a guitar shaped cushion and the ideas grew from there.

Cushty Guitar Cushion – who knew!

After studying art at university, I continued my creative interest by sewing interiors for personal use as well as for friends and family until I was encouraged to share my designs with a wider audience. My creations continue to be inspired by music and art, coupled with the use of salvaged materials.

The Hidden Teapot loves these! Too cute cosies

Super Cushions, available this Sunday! Come and meet the designer

I am more than happy to help with any requests if you see something that you would like personalised or created to specification.

Beautiful Cards

Using vintage and new wallpaper that has been hand and machine stitched into layers that become 3-dimensional. Each design is then embellished with beads, buttons and fine glitter to add that touch of sparkle. My range of paper products includes cards, gift cards and tags, bunting, gift bags, brooches, badges and wall decor.  I also have a small selection of digitally printed cushions using my wallpaper designs.

Sitting comfortably? You could be with this lovely cushion

I am happy to personalise items and commissions can also be made specifying which wallpapers you would like to use from a selection of my own vintage and new designs.

Crafty Profile – Tess Hines

Tess Hines is a Beckenham-based linoprint artist who has been producing handmade prints and greeting cards for just over a year. Her inspiration comes from many things: natural forms including flowers, leaves, shells, fossils and wildlife, as well as Art Nouveau designs and beautiful silhouette illustrations and papercuts.

Tess is passionate about printmaking and relishes the entire process, from sketching designs and carving the lino, to printing the image itself and lifting the paper to reveal the final image.  She is very excited to be attending the Beckenham Crafty Market and will have many of her beautiful card designs and prints on sale there.

Crafty Christmas Update

hello teapots

Exciting news! The Beckenham Crafty Christmas Hand-Made Market is bursting at the seams with the best designer-made talent there is! The response of sellers has been so great that we have had to reschedule the date of the event to accommodate all of the loveliness.

The Beckenham Crafty Christmas Hand-Made Market will now be on Sunday 20 November and will start at midday until 6pm. Don't forget, this is a market with a difference.... it is held in a domestic setting not in a boring car park or windy field. You will be able to browse and buy hand-made items that can't be found anywhere else. This promises to be a fun afternoon in a really friendly atmosphere with Christmas carols and much merriment.

Over the next few weeks we will take a peek at the designers, makers, illustrators and artists confirmed to be at the event. We will showcase their work and let you know a bit about them. Our aim is to offer affordable, quality gifts and trinkets.

We are planning to have some hot food stalls so if you're peckish pop along!

If you would like more info please get in touch. Miss SoS will be happy to answer your enquiries. Email: thehiddenteapot@gmail.com

Sundays pix...

here are just a few images from Sundays tea-party x
can't say there was a sell-out on the 99's but it's not summer without them!

a few of Miss-Match-Sox's friends who came to the teapot, Mr stripey bunny liked it so much he stayed
the wonderfully talented Avriella....  we heart you!

Calling fellow designer-makers!

the Hidden Teapot will be running 2 markets aimed at attracting the Christmas gift buying audience. One will be in Beckenham, the other in Wimbledon.

The dates for these events will be finalised this week. The Beckenham market will be a Christmas night market, the Wimbledon market will be a daytime event. Both will be held in a welcoming non-commercial environment. At this early stage, plans include live music, mulled wine, mince pies, tarot readings and taster sessions of massage and other holistic therapies! Plus a great variety of designer-maker stalls. Events will be widely advertised and promise to be a friendly and informative way of showcasing and selling work.

If you are a designer-maker who might be interested in selling at one or both of the markets, please get in touch as soon as possible to express your interest. We will aim to have a variety of disciplines and will aim not to duplicate... so, if you design and make tea cosies (for example) and you are successful in your application to sell then you can be sure there wont be 10 other cosie makers doing the same thing.

Thanks teapots x

bye-bye summer

thank you to everyone who braved the British weather and came to the Hidden Teapot today!

At 1pm it started to rain... then it rained some more and then a little more. It was too wet for the garden so we all squeezed indoors. The brilliant Avriella provided the music throughout the afternoon and brightened up the day. She was so fantastic!

So, a big thank you to everyone who was here, it was lovely to see familiar teapot faces and to meet new teapots!

We're now planning some Christmas events.... we will keep you posted.

Bye for now, teapots x x
